reference.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of
the glory of God.
The bad news is that everyone is a
sinner. Everyone has failed to follow God's commands.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the
gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The first part of this verse is also
bad news. Because we are sinners, we deserve death.
Death began when Adam and Eve first sinned and continues to
this day. But there is good news. God offers us
eternal life in Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for
us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
It's not just enough to believe that
Jesus lived and was a good man and created a religion.
The belief we must have is that Jesus died for our sins.
He took the penalty that we should have paid and died in our
place.
Romans 10:9-10
That if you confess with your mouth,
"Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your
heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with
your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Is it really as easy as confessing and
believing? Yes it is. But saying a one time
prayer isn't all there is to being a Christian.
Confessing that Jesus is Lord in a prayer is a start of a
lifelong journey of belief. Believing means putting
your faith in something. That means if we believe in
Jesus, our life changes because whatever we believed in
before is gone. Yes we confess with our mouth, but our
actions back up what we say.
Assurances from Romans
The book of Romans also gives us
assurances and peace beyond just God's plan of salvation.
Romans 5:1
Therefore, since we have been
justified through faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:1
Therefore, there is now no
condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death
nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor
the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor
anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Once we place our faith in Jesus we do
not need to fear death any longer. Our faith assures
us of our salvation and nothing can take it away from us.
